Golden Views

A few weeks ago, I did a snowshoe hike and stayed on top of the mountain for sunset.

We hiked up a mountain close to the German border to Austria. Halfway up, we had to use snowshoes because the snow got too deep. It was quite a fight up because the peak was really steep. When we reached the top, we had to wait for a bit more than half an hour for the sun to set. Doesn’t sound like a lot but it was damn windy and freezing. Anyway, it was well worth the effort: we were rewarded with some really nice golden light on the surrounding snow-covered mountains and valleys!

We stayed on the peak until the sun disappeared behind the mountains and the world was turned into pastel tones. Heading back down the mountain, we made one last stop to take pictures. The lights turned on in the towns in the valley and blue hour took over. Not long after, we had to put on our headlamps. Blue hour gave way to the night and we made our way back to the car.
